Questions That Haunt Me!

November 30, 2008

Continuing from where i left last time….some more rib ticklers…

Can you cry under water?

How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?

Why do you have to ‘put your two cents in’… but it’s only a ‘penny for your thoughts’? Where’s that extra penny going to?

Once you’re in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity?

What disease did cured ham actually have?

How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Why is it that people say they ’slept like a baby’ when babies wake up like every two hours?

If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing?

Why are you IN a movie, but you’re ON TV?

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

Why do doctors leave the room while you change?
They’re going to see you naked anyway.

Why is ‘bra’ singular and ‘panties’ plural?

Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat?

Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool lane ?

Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours?
They’re both dogs!

If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from?

If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?

Do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune?

Why did you just try singing the two songs above?

Why do they call it an asteroid when it’s outside the hemisphere, but call it a hemorrhoid when it’s in your butt?

Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog’s face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride, he sticks his head out the window?

Do you ever wonder why you gave me your E-mail address in the first place?

Raichur trip part -2

November 12, 2008

100_18821

Ok the second part of our 2 day trip was spent in Hampi.11 kms off hospet, in the middle of nowhere in today’s terms.I’ll start off by telling you a bit of the history behind the place.

HISTORY:=>

Hampi, the capital city of Vijayanagara Empire, was founded by two brothers Harihara and Bukkaraya (more popularly known as Hakka and Bukka), under the guidance of their Guru Vidyaranya. It was not just the largest Hindu empire of its time, but was also one of the largest trading centres of the world. The markets in Hampi were always crowded with merchants from all over the world to barter their goods in exchange of spices and cotton, grown abundantly in the area. Rubies, diamonds and all precious stones were sold on the streets in the scale of seers (litre like measurement, commonly used even today in many parts of rural India). Gold and silver were the currencies.

Hampi, built in the year 1336 flourished and had a population of over half a million. The city was important not just for the traders but also for devotees and poets. There were temples built in hundreds, which stand as an evidence to the religious inclination of Hampi. Public ceremonies and festivals were celebrated in their true meaning. Names like Shri Purandhara Dasa and Tenali Rama can be linked with Hampi. Hampi is also the place where Lord Rama met Hanumantha and killed Vali in exchange for help from Sugreeva.

As the saying goes, everything that goes up must come down. It was true in case of Hampi also. After seeing its golden reign during King Krishna Deva Raya (AD 1509 – 1529), Hampi fell down to the attacks of the five Sultans of Deccan – Bidar, Bijapur, Golconda, Ahmednagar and Berar in the year 1565. The city was looted for a period of 6 months. The temples were destroyed and the markets were plundered. The golden empire had come to an end.

After that short history lesson which the Guide narrated to us in halting Hindi and Kannada which the poor guy switched rather patiently while showing us around the Shri Vijayavittala temple. The temple did not have deity,it was moved to a village near sholapur in Maharashtra. It consisted mainly of the main temple and as is mandatory in hindhu tradition Marriage, music and dance halls. Now each of these were marvels by themselves. One had these array of pillars that made different sounds when struck with sandalwood sticks. The guide told us that it was down to the weight and structure of the beams which i understand to be resonance to us Science people. Then there was this huge stone chariot carved from one full stone. It wasn’t mobile of course but back then during important festivals the wheels were rotated to give you the illusion that it was moving.100_18911

From there it was a short walk via the river to the Shri Virupaksha temple which to this day people go and pray.En-route we stopped by the river and it was a splash and dash,it was already 3 and we hadn’t had lunch.Though the bajji’s served at the tiny shack were tempting,it was an appetite killer. We finally reached the temple after like an hours walk and after a bit of shopping(i got this awesome tribal neckband with carved beads for a bargain…its already broken!!!!). At the temple we were “blessed” by the elephant, and once we were done offering our prayers at the sanctum sanctorum we went on the have our lunch which was at around 5 i think.

That brings an end to day 2 of our trip.We proceeded to hospet where we had dinner and at around 10 we started on our return journey back to bangalore.

Overall it was a very good trip,i had a good time.I was accompanied by a good bunch of friends and wouldn’t mind doing it all over again.

PART-1=> RTPS

Ok its been long since i posted anything here. Busy as usual. but i went on a trip recently that i had to share with you. This was basically an industrial visit to the Raichur Thermal Power Station(RTPS in short). for those who don’t know about, 40% of the daily power supply comes from here to Bangalore.Amazing place it was.

There were elaborate security measures of course . We waited a full half hour with all the security checks and handing over our cameras(Taking pictures inside were prohibited),so everything we saw was for EYES ONLY.But once inside, you were in a different world.

Starting with the coal unloading(forgot to tell you,its a coal fired plant). Here full train carriages filled with coal were over turned onto hoppers.the hydraulics were on a massive scale, they had to be, considering that they had to lift almost 300 tonnes of weight. We were covered in the soot of course once the coal was unloaded.

Then we went over to the crushers, furnaces and boilers which too were humongous . i think as big as olympic size swimming pools .Then we went on to the turbines and generators, there were 5 of them totally spread over a kilometre in length..im not kidding…and each unit had its own control centre . Only two units were in production when we went at the time…the reason for the load shedding in bangalore!!!

Then we got into our buses and went to the cooling towers, which according to me was the best part of the plant and certainly the most beautiful to look. There were 7 of them totally, we went into one of them and MEIN GOTT!!!! it was like a sauna on biblical proportions!!!! i would call it a mechanical wonder.

Then of course we got back into our buses and proceeded to have lunch, for which we waited a full hour and a half.we got back to our hotel and once there we let the bubbly flow(if you know what i mean).thats a whole other episode that im still deciding if i should share with you.maybe before my next post i would have made a decision.

So next day ,after a few minutes of picture taking in front of the buses we departed to Hampi.

updates and happenings

October 19, 2007

well long time since i last posted …

have been busy lately….doing other things of course….then there’s orkut and facebook…leaves me with no time to update…3 days is at i think comprises of our dassera vacations….somewhat measly compared to the 3weeks we used to get at school.anyways first things first…. my academics have gone to dogs… got a 2 on 25 recently in a subject i like…. pretty ironic i must say…sux big time… enough on the updates…..

Moving on to happenings…well not much … ha ha … no fests at college , no major gigs..life’s drab and boring… on the interesting side one of my friends confessed he didn’t think he had testicles till he attained puberty…at least he thought that was the case…lame guy i must say….. how hard is it to feel yourself????

oh and i almost forgot….i joined a gym…. got tired of looking at that skinny guy in the mirror…has been fun so far… and damn right interesting….the aerobics and gym area are all the same…also at the same time….. so at least when i’m not tugging at weights…. the effort of getting to the gym aren’t in vain..and i got to tell you the instructor is way hotter than the hottest chillies you can find….alls well i must say..im out of her….

more updates coming shortly

end of exams…

July 20, 2007

well exams done at last…..

big relief…the wait before the exams more than the exam itself sux…….ya…it sounds funny…but we get a month and a half as study holidays……..the exams lasts for 20days……and the vacation following is little more than 3 weeks…….this is life in a college than follows the VTU curriculum……..thank god our college is going to be autonomous from next year……granted by the VTU of course…..but who cares ….we dont follow their godforsaken rules anymore……

so in maybe 3weeks time ……i’ll be back to the usual grind……the long hours of travel….and more so attending the lectures…… we’ll have new teachers continuing where the previous ones left-off……

cant get  time to post anymore stuff these days…….BUSY is the word….

end of the beginning!!!!

May 13, 2007

well let me finish off wat i started before in the post BEGINNING!!

so enlightening u with my travel……oh hell who cares really…….let me talk about something else……like the exams that in a month will see lesser tv hrs, lesser times at the computer….and in particular orkuting….which has taken over India by storm literally(my 7 yr old cousin has an account!!!!!)…….

Tough times ahead for me atleast…..did really badly in the previous semester…..so now i have my mum hounding down upon me…….and then there are my relatives whose expectations i need to fulfill…..satisfy really…..and then my friends……..who fool around just like me….cut classes….and still manage to better than…..

I’ve even gone to the extent of promising my mother that ill not touch the computer for a month before the exams begin….. dont ask me why i did that….silly thing to do really….considering i wont be posting for more than 2 months…..checking my mails …or scraps in orkut……basically shunning my poor self for the internet world………

I think ill keep up my promise….maybe it’ll pay-off..like getting 90%……i hope so atleast…..that way ill have a years aggregate of like 77%….which is still lesser than what my friends will get….but atleast im not a loser…..

adios

yours only………

wierd facts !!!!

April 29, 2007

here’s wat i found …..and mind you these are direct refrences……..none made up by I…..

A segment is a one-dimensional object.(ya we know that one!!!) Once we know the location of the endpoints, we can specify each point on the segment by using just one number, going from 0 at one endpoint to 1 at the other. The midpoint is specified by 1/2, the point halfway between the midpoint and the end by 3/4, and so on.( thats pretty obvious…..2 plus 2 is 4…….or 4 divided by 2 is 2…….yeah!!!!)

here’s where it gets interesting….

To locate a segment, we have to tell where its endpoints are, and the number of coordinates for each point can be large. If we want a segment that joins a point on one coordinate axis to a point on another, then we need two numbers. If we want a segment with starting point on one line and ending point in a given plane, then we need three numbers. The collection of all segments in the plane is four-dimensional since we need two coordinates for each of the endpoints. So the location of a segment can be specified using any number of numbers, even though the segment itself is one-dimensional.( weird ehhh???four dimensions???)

An example of a one-dimensional application is a core sample taken by a geologist, boring a deep shaft into the earth and then analyzing what lies at each depth. Each observation can be specified by a single number, how far down the shaft is lies. Of course it is necessary to tell the location of the shaft, and that takes at least two more numbers, latitude and longitude.

A circle is one-dimensional(got this??????), in the sense that it only takes one number to give the location of a point on the circle, once we have a starting point and a direction of travel along the circle. Traveling the length 2pR along a circle of radius R brings us back to the starting point. Traveling pR along the circle brings us halfway around, and in order to get 3/4 of the way around, it is necessary to go a distance of (3/4)(2pR). Another way of specifying a point on a circle is to give its angle, so that each point is a certain number of degrees from the origin, anywhere from 0 to 360. We can also use a clock to specify a point on the circumference by the position of the minute hand, from noon to one p.m.

The position of a car racing along an oval race track can be given by a single number, the distance from the starting point. This is also true for race tracks with more complicated shapes. No matter what the shape of the race course is, it is essentially one- dimensional. If we know the length of the track and we know how far the care has traveled, then we can figure out where it is on the track. Of course there are many other things we would want to know about a race car besides its position, for example its velocity and its acceleration. These have to do with the way the car traverses the track and there are infinitely many ways to do this, even though the track itself is one- dimensional. It is also true that a track is wide as well as long, a crucial feature if one car is going to be able to pass another, but the most important dimension is length.

One-dimensional objects have length(hehe!!!). A segment has length, and so does a circle (its circumference). A ray or an entire straight line will have infinite length. Even though each circle is one-dimensional as a mathematical object, it may take many numbers to specify a particular circle. For example a circle in the plane can be specified by the location of its center and the length of its radius. We can say that the collection of circles in the plane is a three-dimensional collection of one-dimensional objects, just as the collection of segments in the plane is a four-dimensional collection of one-dimensional objects.

life goes on……

April 29, 2007

ok i just finished my internals……in one word they were SAD…..

got no mood at all nowadays…….cant even get my silly backside to sit on the over comfy chair that lies transfixed in its sorry position……waiting for the d day ill come to go thyrough my books……while my sorry friends claim that they lead a life like mine….their test numbers say so otherwise…..it then inspires me to play catch up….although the spirit lasts for a day or two maximum…….

and so life goes on……..as usual…..the usual routine from dawn to dusk…….
